- What you wanna do is a Lowlevel format. This is normaly done by using the
- controller software, and not by AmigaDOS. Using the Amiga Format command
- will only rearrange the bits on the drive so the Amiga can use it.
-
- So, you can issue the Amiga Format command (with verify on, but I thought
- that's default), and if that doesn't work (i.e. checksum errors or r/w
- errors). You have to use the software that came with your controller. If
- this software also fails becose of r/w errors. Than you have to find the
- command for the controller that rearranges the badblocks.
-
- Since you gave no information on what kinda harddrive you have, or what
- sort of controller or software, it's pretty hard to say what you realy
- have to do.
-
- Maybe you could give that information and then post your msg in the
- comp.sys.amiga.hardware group ???
-
- Another solution (cose I had such a problem at the Party V in Denmark), is
- to disconnect everything that is not standard on your Amiga. I normaly
- leave the top of my Amiga A2000 open (since the 4 HD's cann't be fitted
- proppely), but since I was going to the Party V, I had to close the caes.
- When I wa son the Party V, one of my HD's reported only r/w errors and
- badblocks. Since I allready copied some usefull things from that HD, I let
- it be. At home I again removed the cover, and you know what ? It worked
- again, without any errors. Strange, but if that's the way it works, than
- that will be the way B-)

- P.S. And if I have understand it correctly, Quantum Harddrives CAN NOT
- preform a Lowlevel format....
